More performance
The new Nimbus has an average battery life of 15 years, about twice that of conventional smart meters on the market. It is smaller, easier to carry and install, yet compatible with more gas blends. Its digital interface provides a really smart user experience.
Key components include:

Communication battery with a 15-years lifespan compared to the current 8/10 years.
- Remote communication modules based on NB-IoT technology and LoRaWAN for the primary network, and an additional structured backup network based on mesh technology, so as to ensure maximum network coverage and signal transmission quality.
- A gas flow measurement subsystem based on static, thermo-mass technology that is compatible with Gas (UNI EN 437) of the 2nd family (natural gas), with Natural Gas-Hydrogen and/or 3rd family (L.P.G.) mixtures up to 23% concentration.
- Measurement of the actual remaining battery charge unlike the current estimation algorithm on meters so that the battery health status is known in real time.

More safety
Nimbus guarantees maximised safety on all fronts, as it is equipped with detectors to prevent to tampering or disconnection from the network, as well as a pressure sensor, a seismic sensor and a temperature sensor that interrupt the gas supply in case of earthquake and fires.
Key components include:

Specific anti-tamper solutions, additional to those already provided by standard that enable early detection of unauthorized attempts to disconnect or tamper with the meter from the gas network.
- A relative pressure sensor in order to help detect and monitor pressure in the gas distribution network.
- A seismic sensor for the identification of seismic events and subsequent automatic closing of the smart meter solenoid valve.
- A temperature detection sensor outside the meter, as to monitor the operating temperature of the components and to detect any critical fire situations in the vicinity, with subsequent automatic closing of the smart meter solenoid valve.
More sustainability
Nimbus enables the use of renewable gases, being compatible with natural gas and methane-hydrogen blends. Nimbus is composed up to 85% of recyclable material in line with the circular economy approach that allows Italgas to reduce the environmental footprint associated with its activities.
